LIR members, Well yet another successful L.I.R. event, our 2009 Family Picnic! Oh and what a day it was. The day started off early with some cloud coverage, but as it progressed so did the sunshine, and smiles. I believe this years menu topped last years as we extended our selections. Our morning started off with our set up committee, Jim (Old Man) Leys Sr., Pete (The Politician) Giorge, Frank (Tiger) Mellacio, Johnny (Be Good) Ocasio, Dave (The Rail Sitter) Seymour, Mikey (The Chef) Cordiello, Jimmy (the photographer) Breeze, Al (Squeaky) Brill, Paulie (the phone) Targansky, Johnny (Banner Loser) Cusumano. Where the Beer, Wine & Soda was iced. The Veggies cut and diced for the salads. Chicken cutlets marinated in Teriyaki sauce. Peppers & Onions sliced to top the Sausage Sweet & Hot. London Broil steaks seasoned to perfection. Hot Chicken wings lined the pans to be warmed. Trays of Shrimp Cocktails iced to maintain a chill. Butter melted for the fresh from the farm Corn on the Cob. Wooden skewers used to lace up the Pineapple chunks with the Brats. Potatoes wrapped in Aluminum foil and placed in the coals to be seared & charred as Mackie's. Tray's of Shrimp to be warmed with the melted butter and seasoning. Of course what would a session on the grill be without 100 Nathans Hot Dogs, and Ham Burgers, even had our famous Bubba Burgers to the delight of many. Dishes from home included trays of Sausage & Peppers in a zesty red sauce, Macaroni & Cheese. Some delightful deserts were presented, Watermelon iced, Strawberry shortcake, Donuts, and a special Marmalade Crumb Cake fresh from Maureen's oven. I'm sure I missed something not intentionally just tough to remember it all. The Set-up committee was treated to Bacon Eggs & Cheese on rolls provided by our 5 star chef Mike, and yours truly. This always seems to get everyone off on the right track and enhance our day. I guess that has something to do with our age and appetites? Well once the cars started arriving so did the anticipation of great food and friendly dialogue. Our DJ Richie (Blown 32) Staib provided us all with some smoking oldies and visits down memory lane. Ahh those were the day's huh... To our surprise my nieces daughter Zoe, gave us a smile with her Michael Jackson dance routine. Nothing like a 3 year old to add a smile. As everyone enjoyed the menu we entertained ourselves with Hula Hoops and Sack races. No future Olympics coming out of this group but many fine moments to be admired for days to come. The little ones once again was treated to a Piñata, that sweet tooth always gets their attention. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves immensely and I noticed the crowd is staying later with each passing year. This event just continues to grow each year and only gets better with practice and new ideas. I certainly appreciate the support and enthusiasm of the committee's (shopping, set-up, clean -up etc.) A special thank you to all the family members that spent the afternoon with us and all our friends, even Ziggy & Johnny Coupe :). The winner of the $100.00 door prize went to Paulie's sister, another new edition for this year. Our Congrats and many thanks for joining us. Again my sincere thanks to all the members of the L.I.R. for all there efforts in making this event such a success!!! Committee
